About this program
Chronic stress and executive functioning challenges may show up in the consulting room every week — in the clients you see, and sometimes in you. This 2-hour experiential workshop equips you with a practical, evidence-based toolkit drawn from polyvagal theory, somatic and mindfulness-based interventions, and executive function science. Through guided practice, demonstration, and case application, you will leave with nervous system regulation techniques you can teach clients in session and use in your own clinical practice, plus concrete strategies for supporting executive functioning across diagnostic presentations.
Who this is for
Licensed psychologists and doctoral-level mental health clinicians who provide assessment, therapy, or consultation services.
Learning objectives
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Identify the three autonomic states in the polyvagal model during simulated clinical interactions and recognize at least two observable indicators of each.
- Demonstrate at least three evidence-based regulation techniques appropriate for use within a therapy session, including relevant clinical applications and contraindications.
- Apply at least three executive functioning strategies to develop a client support plan that integrates nervous system state, diagnostic presentation, cultural context, and individual learning differences.

RegisterAbout this program
More than half of U.S. adults live with at least one chronic illness, and psychologists across specialty areas — not only health psychologists — encounter chronically ill clients regularly. This program prepares you to provide whole-person psychological support to adults living with chronic illness, grounded in the biopsychosocial model and contemporary health psychology evidence. You will learn to recognize the psychological dimensions of chronic illness, integrate evidence-based interventions into general practice, and address culturally responsive considerations in working with chronically ill populations whose presentations have historically been under-recognized.
Who this is for
Licensed psychologists and doctoral-level mental health clinicians who provide assessment, therapy, or consultation services to adults with chronic illness, or who wish to develop competence in this area.
Learning objectives
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Apply the biopsychosocial model to conceptualize the reciprocal interactions among disease-specific factors (e.g., symptom burden, disease trajectory, treatment demands), psychological sequelae (e.g., adjustment difficulties, grief, health anxiety, identity disruption), and social determinants (e.g., access to care, social support, socioeconomic constraints) in adults living with chronic illness.
- Select and justify at least two evidence-based psychological interventions — such as acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy for chronic illness, or motivational interviewing — matched to a client's illness characteristics, functional impact, and co-occurring psychological presentation.
- Incorporate culturally responsive considerations — including recognition of medical invalidation, diagnostic delay in historically under-recognized populations, and systemic barriers to equitable care — into clinical formulation and intervention planning for chronically ill adults.
Schedule
- 0:00–0:20Welcome, disclosures, and the biopsychosocial framework
- 0:20–0:55Psychological sequelae of chronic illness
- 0:55–1:05Break — not offered for CE credit
- 1:05–1:35Evidence-based interventions for chronic illness adjustment
- 1:35–1:55Culturally responsive considerations and disparities
- 1:55–2:10Case-based application, Q&A, and evaluation
CE credit is awarded only for the instructional activities listed above. Scheduled breaks are not eligible for CE credit.

RegisterAbout this program
Black women and AFAB individuals are among the most under-identified populations in the autism literature. Many receive their diagnosis in adulthood — after years of being told their experiences reflected anxiety, depression, attachment difficulty, or simply being "too much." This program brings you into contemporary scholarship on late autism diagnosis in Black women and AFAB individuals: what the literature shows about diagnostic disparity, what late-diagnosed Black autistic adults report about being finally seen, and what culturally responsive psychological care looks like for this population.
Who this is for
Licensed psychologists and doctoral-level mental health clinicians who assess, treat, or consult with adult clients and have interest in culturally responsive practice.
Learning objectives
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Identify and explain how systemic factors (e.g., racial bias in referral pathways, exclusion from research samples), clinical factors (e.g., camouflaging, diagnostic overshadowing by anxiety or mood disorders), and research limitations (e.g., norming on white male samples, underrepresentation in validation studies) interact to produce delayed or missed autism identification in Black women and AFAB individuals.
- Distinguish clinical features of late-identified autism — including social camouflaging, sensory differences, and autistic burnout — from overlapping presentations of generalized anxiety, depression, complex trauma, and personality disorders, using current diagnostic and phenomenological evidence.
- Apply culturally responsive clinical strategies — such as affirming racial and autistic identity integration, facilitating grief processing related to late diagnosis, and supporting informed disclosure and accommodation decisions — in therapeutic work with late-diagnosed Black autistic women and AFAB adults.
Schedule
- 0:00–0:10Welcome, disclosures, and scholarly landscape
- 0:10–0:40Diagnostic disparities and their measured causes
- 0:40–0:50Break — not offered for CE credit
- 0:50–1:10Clinical recognition and the path to identification
- 1:10–2:00Culturally responsive care after diagnosis, Q&A, and evaluation
CE credit is awarded only for the instructional activities listed above. Scheduled breaks are not eligible for CE credit.
Instructors
Dr. Monica Blied, PhD — Licensed Clinical Psychologist (CA PSY30328), adjunct professor at Pepperdine University, and founder of Faces of Health. Formally trained in both gold-standard autism diagnostic instruments (ADOS-2 and ADI-R), with deep expertise in diagnostic disparity and culturally responsive care for Black women and AFAB adults whose autism has long been misattributed to anxiety, depression, or trauma.
Dr. Elizabeth Farrah Louis, PhD — Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Harvard Medical School/MGH faculty instructor whose clinical, forensic, and scholarly work centers on the mental health of Black women and historically under-recognized populations, with deep expertise in diagnostic disparity and culturally responsive care.

RegisterAbout this program
ADHD, autism, and specific learning disabilities reflect differences in how the brain develops, connects, and processes information — differences that shape attention, executive functioning, learning, sensory processing, emotion, and motor coordination. This program gives you a contemporary, research-based understanding of those neurobiological systems and how they interact across neurodivergent profiles. You will learn to use that knowledge to deepen case conceptualization, strengthen assessment feedback, and communicate neurodevelopmental findings more clearly with clients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
Who this is for
Licensed psychologists and doctoral-level mental health clinicians who assess, treat, or consult with neurodivergent children, adolescents, adults, families, or educational teams.
Learning objectives
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Identify and describe the roles of at least four interacting neural systems — including frontoparietal attention networks, default mode network, cortico-striatal-thalamic circuits, and reading- and math-related cortical pathways — in shaping the clinical, cognitive, and learning profiles observed in ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, and specific learning disabilities.
- Compare and contrast the neurobiological signatures of ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, and specific learning disabilities — including shared features such as executive function differences and atypical connectivity — while accounting for within-diagnosis heterogeneity, co-occurrence, and developmental change across the lifespan.
- Integrate neurodevelopmental research findings into assessment feedback sessions by translating neurobiological concepts into accessible, strengths-informed language appropriate for clients, families, educators, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Apply knowledge of neurodevelopmental systems to generate individualized, evidence-informed support recommendations that link a client's neurobiological profile to specific accommodations, intervention targets, and referral decisions.
Schedule
- 0:00–0:20Welcome, disclosures, neurodevelopment, neuroplasticity, and the networked brain
- 0:20–0:50Attention, reward, executive functioning, and working memory
- 0:50–1:00Break — not offered for CE credit
- 1:00–1:30The neurobiology of autism and co-occurring ADHD
- 1:30–1:50Learning, sensory processing, motor coordination, sleep, and regulation
- 1:50–2:10Case-based application, Q&A, and evaluation
CE credit is awarded only for the instructional activities listed above. Scheduled breaks are not eligible for CE credit.
